From Ashes to Evergreens
July 24, 2024 - A Tale of Two Trails
There's something magical about mountain biking from Mormon Peak to Carlton Ridge in Lolo that feels like flipping through nature's before-and-after album.
Left side: the aftermath of wildfire's harsh reality. Charred sentinels standing guard over a landscape that's been through hell but somehow still beautiful. The mountain vista stretches beyond like a blue-tinted promise that life continues. I stood on that rocky outcrop, mountain bike leaning against the stone, and felt humbled by nature's resilience. Even in destruction, there's a raw, haunting beauty that knocks the wind right out of you.
Right side: the redemption story. A trail winding through towering pines, dappled sunlight playing hide and seek, and that earthy smell that no fancy candle has ever truly captured. The forest floor buzzing with quiet life, and those vibrant green leaves catching golden light just right. This is the payoff, the reason my legs are burning and my water bottle's half empty.
Two trails, same journey. Destruction and rebirth. Challenge and reward.
That's why I keep coming back to these Montana trails—they're not just paths through the wilderness, they're reminders that the best views come after the hardest climbs, and sometimes the most beautiful growth happens after everything burns down.
